LUNCHTIME IN MUMBAI

Food is central to the life of Mumbai. That's probably why Mumbai make more effort to keep its workers fed than any other city. Every day at lunchtime, about 4500 to 5000 Dabbawala's, or "lunchbox carriers" deliver food directly to 175,000 to 200,000 workers and students. The New York Times reported that the 125-year-old Dabbawala industry continues to grow at a rate of 5-10% per year. In 2010 Harvard Business School added the case study “The Dabbawala System: on-Time Delivery, Every Time” to their compendium for its high level of service (equivalent of Six Sigma or better) with a low cost and simple operating system.

THE CITY OF MUMBAI

Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, is the Indian twin of NYC. Besides the frenetic pace and bustling energy, there are numerous geographic, social and cultural similarities between the two cities. Much like NYC, Mumbai is a melting pot of diverse cultures and languages, It is a metropolitan city that never sleeps and loves to eat (and Bollywood). JEWISH COMMUNITY IN MUMBAI

India has the unique distinction of being a secular nation comprising of various religions and faiths. Judaism arrived in India in the 18th Century, with almost 70% of the Jews now living in the city of Mumbai. About 5000 Jews inhabit the city of Mumbai and have always practiced their faith without any fear or discrimination. Indian Jews are very proud of their Indian culture, native language and Indian way of life. There are ten Synagogues in Mumbai, the oldest one dating back to 1796 and is called the Gate of Mercy.
